The Infamous Stringdusters released Rise Sun, their latest studio effort earlier this year. At that time, dobroist Andy Hall told Relix, “Rise Sun is an album that we needed to make to re-affirm and solidify something we’d been feeling for some time: the desire for togetherness, the desire for hope, the desire for love. These songs represent our best effort at capturing not only those feelings of positivity, but the energy of our live show on a record as well. Those two things together are what make this album unique. We’ve put all our energy of hopeful intention into this project and we hope you can feel it!”
Today we premiere the band’s official video for “Truthand Love” from the new record, which was directed by photographerJay Strausser. The group’s guitar player Andy Falco, notes, “We’ve alwaysadmired his work and when the opportunity arose to bring him out on the road wenaturally jumped on it. He is able to deliver a visual narrative of ourshows and somehow capture the energy of the band and audience in pictures whichis a crucial part of telling our story to the world. He created this video for‘Truth and Love’ using clusters of still photos from the road and achieved afantastically unique looking video that also showcases the amazing work out ourlighting director Jason Gutworth. We look forward to bringing him back out onfall tour, and we’re so psyched to stretch the new songs from ‘Rise Sun’ out tosee what musical journey’s will come with exploring their live possibilities.”
Strausseradds, “Much like every Dusters show I attend, the process on this projectwas a unique, emotional, and fulfilling experience for me. All of this videowas created using still photos. Creating more video over the last year has beena fun new creative space, but at times I do miss the flexibility on things likedynamic range and color when editing video vs photo. Some of the time lapsework on previous videos I made started some of the thought for this, and thefaster shooting capability on my Sony led me to spend more time researching ifsomething like this could work. When I realized the potential, I was encouragedthat this team embraced a different approach… and were willing to put up withmy machine gun shutter firing off in their face all last tour!
“Like creating a time-lapse, but this work was unique in the sense that theseframes were captured over a shorter time period and were animated closer toreal time. I was limited to 8 seconds to capture about 80 pictures for eachscene used. There was about 10,000 photos processed to start to evaluatefootage and piece this together! Some of the processing used to normalize thespeed and bring this closer to the ‘flow’ of regular video had its limitations, but the artifacts left from this processing was fun to use creatively throughthe video.
“The song ‘Truth And Love’immediately spoke to me the first time I heard it. Such a great closer on thenew album, and after witnessing the first live performances, I knew I wanted touse it in a video. While on this spring tour I had some heavy news in mypersonal life, news that really gave these lyrics a whole new light for me.Listening to this frequently provided a lot of comfort and helped through somedifficult decisions that had to be made. The dynamics and musical space throughoutthis song really made for a great soundtrack to edit to. Even after all thetimes I’ve watched it, I still find parts of different scenes that sync up sowell with all the subtle sounds on this. Hope everyone enjoys this as much as Idid working on it.”
