“We never wore shoes when we played and someone started calling us Barefoot,” says drummer and guitarist/vocalist Will Evans of the quintet Barefoot Truth’s early, beach gigs. Starting off as an acoustic duo, Evans and guitarist Jay Driscoll, solidified their sound woodshedding around Burlington, Vt., and eventually added fellow University of Vermont students Andy Wrba (bass) and Garret Duffy (harmonica). The most recent augmentation addition, keyboardist John Wayno, completes the current band’s line-up. Forced to change its name from Barefoot after several years – Geffen Records had signed a boy band with the same name – “Truth” seemed a logical fit as Evans focused his lyrics around his interests in environmentalism, sustainable development and global studies. Threads, the band’s third and most recent album aims for “universal consciousness” and “being aware of how your actions can be misinterpreted,” says Evans. “The idea is we’re all trying to achieve a common thread. The thread binds all of our existence together.”
