The String Cheese Incident has premiered a new video with Relix.
The Colorado-based band, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, is offering subterranean salutations by way of their Into the Blue barnburner, “Hi Ho No Show.” The video was filmed during the ensemble’s performance at The Caverns in Grundy County, Tenn., as a part of the 14th season of the PBS-run series, The Caverns Sessions.
The video finds the six-piece performing under the glow of indigo lights. “Hi Ho No Show” receives an atmospheric start at the guide of Kyle Hollingsworth’s gifted press. The waves of sound merge with Michael Travis’ backbeat before Kang christens the track with evocative bluegrass licks on the violin, bolstering a solo that functions like the initiation of an instrumental baton toss that ensues and courses player to player.
Kang’s spirited vibrations bounce off Bill Nershi, igniting chord progressions before the pace of the song and its vivacious energy prompt the members to jump, moving up and down with the music and their fans, who mimicked the movement in response.
As the video continues and the band delves further into their joint sound, Hollingsworth initiates an instrumental trance, like a de facto breakdown that serves as a heavy interplay with the percussionists and Keith Moseley’s axe.
“Hi Ho No Show” is regarded as a concert centerpiece, and has been since its 2016 debut. The band’s Caverns performance emanates the sound and sensations of more than three decades of brotherhood, as if they share a telepathic understanding, knowing how and where to meet and converge their talents.
The String Cheese Incident’s Relix premiere arrives the same day as their Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival arrival, and tomorrow’s sold-out stand at The Fillmore in San Francisco.
