Video Premiere: Jimmy “Duck” Holmes Showcases America’s Oldest Juke Joint in “All Night Long”

Jimmy “Duck” Holmes is not only a bluesman extraordinaire, but he is also the proprietor of America’s longest operating juke joint, the Blue Front Café.

According to a press release, Holmes’ news record – the Dan Auerbach-produced Cypress Grove – is an “aural postcard of a typical Saturday night at Holmes’ Blue Front Café… The album is anchored by tradition — which is natural, since Holmes is the last of the original torchbearers of the rural style known as Bentonia blues—but it’s also explosive, raw, and unpredictably in the moment.”

Naturally, director Tim Hardiman wanted to capture Holmes in his natural element at the historic Mississippi venue for the singer’s “All Night Long” music video.

Yet, Holmes initially treated Hardiman with some skepticism. “Tim had come to visit me at the Blue Front in early October and offered to shoot a video for me to help promote the Blue Front Cafe,” the 72-year-old musician recalled. “I met him again in Nashville when I played at the Ryman and he and my manager were talking about doing a music video. I didn’t think much about it because you never know what will actually happen… Sure enough, he showed up last month and shot the video with some of my friends in the crowd, people who love the Blue Front Café… I have to admit, the video turned out great.  You’d never know it was just from that one camera.”
