On Aug. 9, Little Feat brought their Waiting for Columbus: 45th Anniversary tour to the stunning Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif. The 19-song single-set affair featured a run-through of tracks off the 1977 album, Waiting for Columbus and a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Tennessee Jed” performed during “Dixie Chicken” in honor of the late Jerry Garcia on the anniversary of his passing. Moreover, the show featured Hot Tuna’s Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen during the main drag of songs.

Last night’s concert got underway with a replication of the tracking list from Little Feat’s Waiting for Columbus album, beginning with the LPs’ opening number, “Join the Band.” Then, the ensemble continued to deliver beloved tunes from the seminal record, including “Fat Man in the Bathtub,” “All That You Dream,” “Oh Atlanta,” “Old Folks Boogie,” and “Time Loves a Hero.”

The single-set concert continued with “Day or Night,” “Mercenary Territory” and fan favorite “Spanish Moon.” Next, they dug into “Dixie Chicken,” which featured contributions from Casady and Kaukonen, who then stuck around for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Tennessee Jed” during Little Feat’s gig outside of the San Francisco jamband’s old stomping grounds. The rendition of the beloved Grateful Dead classic was a bust out for Little Feat, who had not performed the cover since 2013. 

Then, they returned to their original material on “Tripe Face Boogie,” with Casady and Kaukonen sticking around for the number, before leaving on “Rocket in My Pocket.” Little Feat continued with “Willin’” and “Don’t Bogart That Joint.” As the night stretched on, the band landed on “A Apolitical Blues” with Kaukonen stepping out one final time to assist on the number. Next, they followed with “Sailin’ Shoes” and “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now” before concluding the night on “Let It Roll.”
