Golden Smog at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City (A Photo Gallery + Recap)
Alternative country-rock supergroup Golden Smog, featuring Jeff Tweedy, Gary Louris, Kraig Johnson, Dan Murphy, Marc Perlman, and Steve Gorman, made their grand return to the live stage this past weekend, performing at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, N.J., on Friday, December 5, 2025. The concert represented the first in a series of three live performances, which resulted in the ensemble’s Big Apple follow-up at The Bowery Ballroom on Saturday, December 6.
During their initial arrival in The Garden State, photographer Marc Millman was on location and shared shots from the occasion. Night one featured a heavy offering of material from the group’s 1995 debut record, Down by the Old Mainstream, second only to their 1998 sophomore follow-up, Weird Tales, as well as a few pulls off their early aughts arrival, Another Fine Day.
Completing the setlist were select covers that included The Faces’ “Glad and Sorry,” Brian Wilson’s “Love and Mercy,” David Bowie’s “Starman,” Bobby Patterson’s “She Don’t Have to See You” and the band’s first cover of Neil Young’s “One The Beach” since 1999, ending a hefty 26 lapse in deliveries.
Golden Smog’s final 2025 reunion arrives on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Chicago’s The Vic. Tickets remain on sale.
