Southern rock stalwarts Blackberry Smoke will release their new live EP, The Southern Ground Sessions, next week on October 26, and the band has been sharing some previews of the effort in the form of pro-shot, in-studio videos of some of the album’s tracks, including this gorgeous cover of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ “You Got Lucky,” which premiered over at Rolling Stone today.

Blackberry Smoke enlisted singer-songwriter/violinist Amanda Shires for the cover—Shires also appears on the EP’s version of the band’s “Let Me Down Easy”—and the collective takes Petty’s tune, which served as the first single off The Heartbreakers’ 1982 album Long After Dark, from a synth-fueled ’80s number to a poignant rumination, shifting Petty’s original defiant lyrics into a more melancholic mood through lead singer Charlie Starr’s yearning vocals.

Watch below, along with the music video for Petty’s original version (which, apparently, is about time-traveling and/or dystopian-future-dwelling musicians).
