Song Premiere: Sadler Vaden “Into The Woods”
Sadler Vaden may be best known for his role on guitar with Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit. For nearly a decade, though, he led the Charleston, S.C-based power trio Leslie and then toured with Drivin N Cryin. Vaden has just released a new self-titled album that draws on his work with all of the aforementioned artists, while also maintaining his own identity and today we share the song, “Into The Woods.”
Vaden tells, Relix, “I wrote ‘Into the Woods’ about those moments that some of us have when we’re not feeling like ourselves. Sometimes that means being more self-destructive than usual, or feeling like a stranger in your own town. The “woods” in this song are a metaphor for darkness. The narrator wants someone to help them not fade too far into it. I’ve seen folks need help and not have it available, and they just fade further and further from who they are. My father was one of those people who never made us aware that he needed help, and it cost him his life. Musically for the song, I wanted to do a mixture of Fleetwood Mac meets Neil Young. Big strong harmonies, minimal guitar parts, and evocative keyboard sounds help get the message across. I really wanted to record this song with a vibe that was mellow yet driven enough to rock slightly.”
