Seth Walker’s tenth studio album, Are You Open? will be released on February 15 via Royal Potato Family. Jano Rix (Wood Brothers), who produced Walker’s preceding record, 2016’s critically lauded Gotta Get Back, returned to work on the new recording. Walker, who reached the #6 slot on the Billboard Blues Album chart with Gotta Get Back, continues to build on his core sound, while drawing on a palette informed by life in New Orleans and Nashville as well as travel to Havana.
Today we premiere “Giving It All Away” from the forthcoming record. Walker tells Relix, that this song “was one of the first written in this batch of tunes for my new album and fittingly it’s the first track on the record. Unbeknownst to me when writing it, the song set the tone that runs through much of the album—the sentiment of letting go of it all. Why we try to hold on to the past or any even any preconceived notion is beyond me. The song also set the tone for the album sonically and musically. The suspension and release. The Sun Ra school of “Space is the Place.” The one chord jams that weave through much of this album gave us a place and space to sit, simmer, and allow the vibes to come naturally.”
