Song Premiere: Rachel Ana Dobken “Understand”
Danny Clinch
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Ana Dobken will release her new studio album, When It Happens to You, this fall, and today we premiere the first single, “Understand.”
“‘Understand’ is about fighting the urge to compare ourselves to others before realizing that everyone is doing the exact same thing,” Dobken tells Relix. “Once we see that everyone is struggling in their own way, and how pointless it is to compare, there comes a sense of freedom and release.”
The smoky, shimmering new track features Dobken on vocals, guitar and drums, along with bassist Dan Haase, guitarist Ryan MacLean and organist Mark Masefield on the B3, along with iconic rock photographer Danny Clinch on guest harmonica. Dobken is also the musical director at Clinch’s Transparent Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ.
Listen to “Understand” below, and learn more about When It Happens to You at the album’s Indiegogo fundraiser page here. Dobken will play August 21 at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall, along with a dual album release show with Mercury Brothers at Asbury Lanes on September 8.
