Song Premiere: Marcus Rezak “Misty Magic”

Marcus Rezak will release his solo debut record this Friday. On Gateway to the Galaxy, the gifted guitar player and vocalist enlists a stellar roster of players including: Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins and Kris Myers on keyboards and drums, Arthur Barrow (Zappa) on bass and Bill Evans (Miles Davis, Allman Brothers Band) on sax.

While Rezak is known for his work in Digital Tape Machine, Shred is Dead and Katharsis, Gateway to the Galaxy is his first studio effort featuring his own original compositions.

Today we premiere “Misty Magic.” Rezak notes, “I wrote the lyrics and music to this song and the entire album organically in the studio with no prep except for what was inside my head and heart.” He describes it as “a song that encompasses the sacrifices made for one’s passion and going on a quest to find love in whatever that may be. Once found, that passion is embodied in a sacred image in the form of a “misty magic” potion coming off the ocean into the sky. Everybody can relate to the never ending journey we all ride seeking the proverbial magic potion in the sky—oceans, climbing deep into caverns, harvest moons, and picturesque landscapes are all part of this story. As the song was fleshed out, Rezak pictured this imagery of nature and sought out a particularly west coast vibe. He wanted the end result to be a feel-good song with a catchy vocal hook with the ‘ohh ohh ohhhs’ encapsulating a vintage, yet modern indie rock feel.”

Gateway to the Galaxy is available for pre-order and pre-save on Spotify.
