Song Premiere: East Forest X Ram Dass “Home”
Celebrated electronic artist East Forest (aka Trevor Oswalt) has teamed up with legendary spiritual guru Ram Dass on a new record. The album will be released via four chapters throughout 2019, with the full album finally issued on August 9. The project features soundscapes created by East Forest to complement new teachings from Ram Dass. Chapter I debuted at #2 on iTunes and #5 on the Billboard New Age chart.
Chapter II will be available this Friday, March 22 and today, we premiere “Home” from the forthcoming release. East Forest explains, “Ram Dass is the psychedelic grandfather of our time. In the song ‘Home’ he recounts his first experience with psilocybin (aka magic mushrooms) and how it served as the springboard of his spiritual life. Not many people can say their first trip was with Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg — this is the first time this iconic story has been put to music.
“I love the playful nature of this song’s instrumentation: the bouncing upright bass, cuban style percussion, and plucking swirling violin. The playfulness of the sound mirrors the carnivalesque nature that a psychedelic trip can sometimes hold; it feels organic and vibey. This song started by asking Ram Dass a long winded question about the future of psilocybin research, with books like Michael Pollan’s How To Change Your Mind just coming out, and the general burgeoning cultural energy of psilocybin as a vital tool for mental health. The first thing he said in response is, ‘Psilocybin is my friend…’ It was classic Ram Dass — funny and perfectly poignant all at the same time.”
