Frequent Relix photo contributor Dino Perrucci shares a selection of his favorite concert memories from 2018, including shows from around NYC, New Orleans and more.

I am blessed to see literally thousands of performances every year. This list is a combination of my favorite musical moments and photographs from 2018, in chronological order (I really can’t rank them—a simple top 15 is hard enough!):

1/25/18 – Otis Redding Tribute – Apollo Theater, NYC

The entire night was an incredible musical experience, with The Dap-Kings serving as the house band for so many great artists. This photo is of Paul Janeway and the Dap-Kings horns

2/21/18 – Tedeschi Trucks Band – The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

I love seeing Tedeschi Trucks Band anywhere, including at their annual run at The Beacon, but this room was built for them and the shows are extra special.

3/15/18 – Love Rocks NYC – Beacon Theater, NYC

In it’s second year, this event is turning into a must-see show for a great cause. So many moments but Keith Richards with Gary Clark Jr. stands out as a favorite.

4/18/18 – Buddy Guy – B.B. King Blues Club, NYC

My last-ever night at B.B. King’s in Times Square with one of my all time favorite blues musicians.

4/28/18 – Midnight Preserves feat. Christian Scott w/ Mr. Charlie Gabriel, Jon Batiste & Saul Williams – Preservation Hall, New Orleans, LA

The Midnight Preserves series at Preservation Hall during Jazz Fest always brings special collaborations and this night was no exception.

5/26/18 – Greenwich Town Party (Preservation Hall Jazz Band > Tedeschi Trucks Band > Eric Clapton) – Greenwich, CT

An absolute dream lineup, and my first chance to photograph Slowhand!

7/21/18 – Deacon John – Tipitina’s, New Orleans, LA

A living legend playing a two-set show in a hot and sweaty Tipitina’s—perfect!

8/11/18 – Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Threauxdown – Bethel Woods, NY

My favorite package tour of the summer. New Breed Brass Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Galactic, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, with special guests Cyril Neville, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Kermit Ruffins.

8/23/18 – Foundations of Funk – The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

The Meters rhythm section (George Porter Jr. & Zigaboo Modeliste), three Nevilles (Cyril, Ivan and Ian) and Tony Hall delivered a two-hour lesson in Funk 101.

9/27/18 – Neil Young & Promise of The Real – The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

A powerful show from start to finish. So great to finally see Neil at The Cap!

10/21/18 – Preservation Hall Jazz Band – Preservation Hall, New Orleans, LA

On my 50th birthday, surrounded by friends and family, PHJB played a special 10pm set that I will never forget.

10/22/18 – John Boutte – d.b.a., New Orleans, LA

My favorite living male vocalist delivered a stunning and intimate show for the ages.

10/27/18 – The Avett Brothers – The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

Another example of a perfect match between band and venue. This was the final night of their three-night run

12/9/18 – Warren Haynes/Dave Grohl & Friends – The Orange Peel, Asheville, NC

Best flight cancellation ever! This last-minute show popped up when we all got snowed-in in Asheville. The energy and intimacy were incredible!

12/31/18 – The Marcus King Band > As The Crow Flies – The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

A great double dose of Southern rock to usher in the new year. “Revival” right after the NYE countdown was a wonderful surprise.
