The Greenhornes: The Greenhornes

Third Man

Since we last heard from The Greenhornes in album format, two-thirds of the band – bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler – have beefed up their rock and roll credentials thanks to side gigs with garage rock’s latter-day patron, Jack White. Eight years after the band’s last full-length came out, we find Keeler, Lawrence and frontman Craig Fox still strongly influenced by ‘60s British Invasion sensibilities and, yet, shedding some of the grittier edges of their earlier work. They’ve made a garage pop album, and a stylish one at that. Youthful simplicity is their bread and butter, and it works well for them most of the time. Only during rare moments when the hooks and riffs are absent does the songwriting seem a tad thin.
