Last night, May 21, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe kicked off the first of two nights on stage at New York’s revered Blue Note jazz club. Yesterday’s appearances and tonight’s ensuing stands ran at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., billed as early and late sets, all featuring previously announced special guest percussionist Weedie Braimah.

Reportedly, during Tuesday’s late frame, members of Dumpstaphunk, Ivan Neville and Tony Hall sat in, joining the night’s headliner for select songs while in the region for tour stops, including tonight’s special guest role, supporting Parlament Funkadelic’s Just For The Funk of it Tour, which stops in Montclair, N.J., located approximately 20 miles outside Manhattan.

Notably, Denson’s Blue Note dates arrived amidst The Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamond tour, which the jazz saxophonist, flutist, and vocalist is musically involved. After last week’s Seattle appearance, the band reappears tomorrow night at East Rutherford, N.J.’s MetLife Stadium, where they will perform two concerts on May 23 and 26.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe returns to the Blue Note tonight, tickets remain on sale.
