Of the six re-mastered shows from Phish’s 2010’s summer tour, the band’s August 6 performance at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif. stands out from the rest of the pack thanks to transcendent versions of “Simple,” the Talking Heads’ “Cities” and the Velvet Underground’s “Rock and Roll.” Each of these tunes shows exactly what the band is capable of improvisationally at this point in its lengthy career, thanks to impressive group interplay that doesn’t rely too heavily on any one member. From the first note of the “Chalk Dust Torture” opener through the “You Enjoy Myself” encore, Mike Gordon’s bass is booming, Page McConnell’s keys are given more attention in the mix and the vocals feature a fuller sound than on the original Live Phish recordings making this limited edition a worthy addition to fans’ collections.
