During the onset of Bob Dylan’s Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery weekend in Woodinville, Wash., the ceaseless lyrical fireplug burst onto the scene with a return to his Woodstock-era classic, “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.” The move came after he opened his Long Hot Summer Tour at McMenamins’ Edgefield in Troutdale, Ore. on Thursday, June 4, and served as a bust-out, last played on November 21, 2012.
Dylan’s setlist formulation has been a point of interest for many fans, given the artist’s affinity for the unexpected. Often sticking to a set of songs for an extended period before a revision marks a significant moment that flees the mundane and invites the musician to draw outside the lines, which was the case during Saturday’s vineyard display.
At the top of the night, Dylan pulled out the 1967 scribed composition, dusting off a thick layer of cobwebs that had been collecting for over 13 years. While the track has been played live by the artist 109 times since its inception, it has experienced different eras of prominence and pause – with particular live emphasis in the late ‘90s and early aughts, according to the musician’s official website.
Notably, at Dylan’s Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery follow-up on Sunday, June 7, he returned to the same starter as his Oregon opener, snapping back into “To Be Alone With You” as the night’s de facto launch.
Next, Dylan is scheduled to play at Eugene, Ore.’s Cuthbert Amphitheater tomorrow evening, Tuesday, June 9. Tickets remain on sale.
