Forever Grateful, Golden Gate Park Will Open with Free Grahame Lesh & Friends Performance

In May 2025 San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, revealed that Dead & Company would perform three shows at Golden Gate Park to celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary. Lurie has just made an additional announcement that touches on the locale and the band.

Forever Grateful, Golden Gate Park is an immersive exhibition to be located in the County Fair Building within the park. It will open on Saturday, September 5 and extend through Sunday, October 25. On Monday, September 7, which is Labor Day, Grahame Lesh & Friends will perform in Robin Williams Meadow between 2:00-and 6:00 PM.

Mayor Lurie has a released a statement which notes, “Art and music define San Francisco, and they have for decades, thanks to groups like the Grateful Dead and the community they created. When we celebrate that legacy, we celebrate not only one period of our history but also the creative energy that still makes San Francisco special today. The Summer of Music was so special last year, and I hope everyone will come out to enjoy Grahame Lesh’s free show on September 7 and celebrate our city’s incredible history and bright future.”

Lesh adds, “There’s nothing like free music in San Francisco. It’s something that the Grateful Dead discovered early on in the ‘60s and something I got to witness and be a part of in the 2020s with my dad as a member of Phil Lesh and Friends. Music is for everyone, and I am honored to celebrate the band’s legacy and history in San Francisco—in Golden Gate Park—with all of you, the wonderful Deadhead community!”

Forever Grateful, Golden Gate Park will complement Forever Grateful, which opened at the Haight Street Art Center on July 3 and will extend through September 20. That exhibition, which collects paintings, lithographs, photographs, instruments and other ephemera celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Center, as well as the glory of the Grateful Dead.

Forever Grateful, Golden Gate Park will include an appearance by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters Furthur bus along with Jerry Garcia’s BMW.

Tickets and additional information are available at the Haight Street Art Center website.
