Eggy hit the road again last week to set off the next leg of their spring tour. After returning from a few weeks off with a home state show in Hartford, Conn. and two thrilling sets at Goose’s second annual Viva El Gonzo destination festival, the indie-jam quartet lit into another extended series of dates with a double-header at Portsmouth, N.H.’s 3S Artspace on May 14 and 15. While their kickoff let the band break ground, they struck the mother lode on Friday with a fistful of track resurrections and a new original.

Eggy set off their Friday night show with a bang by weaving through the frenetic introduction of “Must Come Down” to arrive in “Razi,” touched up with a tease of moe.’s “Buster.” The band blazed through “One Stop Shop” and other staples before unearthing “Watercolor Days,” the title track from their 2019 debut studio album, for the first time since last April. The old favorite tore off into another section of “One Stop Shop” before the quartet tacked on its final chorus, which in turn was met with a seamless transition into Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels”; guitarist Jake Brownstein switched over for from his acoustic to electric for a searing revival of the heartland rock classic, which made it to the stage most recently last August.

Eggy wrapped up their first frame with a debut original titled “Through the Mist,” a dreamy, short and sweet song driven by an uptempo jangle. The closer landed as the second new track they’ve introduced this year, following the one-off “Just a Couple of Strangs” in March. Surprises continued into the second set, when the group merged an opener of “Shatter, Falsities and Fire” into “Tiny Miracles,” last played last August. After a sequence that included their fourth cover of The Shins’ “No Way Down,” the band turned to “Tiny Miracles” again within an expansive outro of “Shatter.”Following a grand finale of “Golden Gate Dancer,” Eggy drove off to Ludlow, Vt. to headline the Divided Sky Foundation’s third annual Music on the Mountain benefit festival on Saturday.

The next stop on Eggy’s tour itinerary will be Wilkes-Barre, Pa.’s River Street Jazz Cafe on May 21. Find tickets and more information at eggymusic.com. Stream the band’s 3S Atrspace shows at nugs.net, and read on for the full setlist from Friday night.
