20th Century Studios has officially set a release date for Deliver Me From Nowhere, the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. As carefully dosed-out announcements and first looks have built up anticipation since it was first unveiled in March 2024, the film will finally arrive in theaters on October 24–making it well-positioned for awards season.
Deliver Me From Nowhere centers the personal turmoil and artistic revelation of Springsteen’s Nebraska era, as communicated in Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name. Beyond White and co-star Jeremy Strong, who portrays Springsteen’s longtime manager Jon Landau, Jersey Boys breakout Johnny Cannizzaro will fill the role of Steven Van Zandt, and Odessa Young, Harrison Sloan Gilbertson and Paul Walter Hauser will round out the starring cast. Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that veteran producer Dave Cobb is helming the soundtrack, and Springsteen and Landau have both been closely involved with film.
In a Q&A for Las Vegas’ CinemaCon in April, White said the film was “an incredible challenge and a dream come true, and I feel really lucky we all had Bruce’s blessing on this film. It’s the story of a very particular moment in Bruce’s life when he was trying to reconcile the pressure of success and the ghosts of his past.”
“Jon was, of course, deeply invested in Bruce as an artist,” Strong added, “but he was also deeply invested in his friend’s happiness and well-being and his struggles with mental health. I see Jon as the Lewis to Bruce’s Clark.”
The film is written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass), who has centered production in Springsteen’s stomping grounds of the Garden State, with additional photography in New York and Los Angeles. “Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska has profoundly shaped my artistic vision,” Cooper offered in a statement to Variety. “The album’s raw, unvarnished portrayal of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me. Our film aims to capture that same spirit, bringing Warren Zanes’ compelling narrative of Bruce’s life to the screen with authenticity and hope, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience. It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Bruce and Jon [Landau] as I tell their story, and their creative energy fuels every part of this journey.”
While his biopic approaches, Springsteen is keeping busy as ever on the road and with new releases; since April, he’s been rolling out Tracks II: The Lost Albums, a set of seven completed and previously unreleased records dating back as many as four records.
