Jack Johnson is currently in the midst of an extended summer tour timed with the release of the new documentary on his journey from surfer to musician, SURFILMUSIC. Hermanos Gutiérrez opened the first leg of the run and Lake Street Dive swapped in at West Palm Beach, FL’s iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre on Tuesday, August 18. The Boston-bred indie-folk group got right into the collaborative spirit on their first date with Johnson, sitting in on a cover of Tom Petty’s Wildflowers classic “You Don't Know How It Feels.” Then, the next day at Tampa, FL’s MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre, the members of Lake Street Dive returned for the same song and then remained for “Upside Down,” Johnson’s family classic from the soundtrack Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George. Though Johnson, who noted that he was excited to jam with Lake Street Dive as they came on stage for the first time this week, has been covering the Petty tune since 2017, he had not performed the cut since the 2023 Oceans Calling festival before Tuesday. Slightly Stoopid helped him out on that rendition of the number. Lake Street Dive have celebrated Petty on the road with Johnson in the past as well.
Lake Street Dive will open for Johnson once again at Alpharetta, GA’s Ameris Bank Amphitheatre this evening.
