Over the weekend, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead turned in a three-show run through Colorado. The outing kicked off at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on Thursday and the Grateful Dead tribute group surprised fans in attendance by debuting their take on James Gang’s “Walk Away” partway through their second set. The tune then segued into “New Minglewood Blues.”

The song, which was written by Joe Walsh, appears on James Gang’s 1971 LP, Thirds. Walsh took the song with him to the Eagles when he joined in 1975 and has performed the track over 600 times with the veteran act. Phish have also covered the tune nearly 100 times, most recently art Las Vegas’ Sphere this past April, when they busted out the song for the first time this year when they learned Walsh was in attendance.

JRAD will perform next at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on September 24.
