Back on August 31, 2024 drummer Jay Weinberg sat in with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville. Weinberg appeared on “Perihelion” that day and has continued to guest with the group over the past two years. He was on hand at last week’s Field of Vision II festival in Buena Vista, CO for a solo drum clinic and he also joined the host band for their song "Hell."
Last night, midway through the KGLW performance at Forest Hills Stadium, guitarist Joey Walker made the following announcement: “In continuing with the tradition that we kind of started over the last year or so, where we get our friend Jay Weinberg to come out and play a song with us, we were like, it'd be rude not to…But Jay's busy. He's down in Nashville. So Jay made a call and he was like, ‘Fuck, all right, I'm going to call dad.’”
Then Walker explained that Jay had convinced Max Weinberg, “who’s played with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band for about the last 50 years…to drive all the way from Atlantic City to come up and play a song with us.”
Max Weinberg sat in on “Hot Water,” which appears below. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will return to Forest Hills Stadium for a “Rave Show” tonight.
