Billy Joel has announced a temporary hiatus from the stage while he recovers from an unspecified condition. The pop-rock icon’s current tour has been interrupted until July, leaving four months for him to commit to physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.
Though details shared in his release are limited, the artist has disclosed that his postponement follows a recent surgery, from which he is expected to make a full recovery. Joel’s previous show was at Uncasville, Conn.’s Mohegan Sun Arena on Feb. 22, where a trick with his microphone stand led to a widely-circulated onstage fall during the encore, followed by a quick recovery.
Eight performances are affected by the shift in plans, including two UK solo shows, four co-headline sets with Sting in Syracuse, N.Y., Milwaukee, Charlotte, N.C. and Salt Lake City and one night with Stevie Nicks at Detroit’s Ford Field. All but the Milwaukee show have been rescheduled–mostly for the spring of 2026–and all purchased tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” Joel shared in a statement. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
Joel will return to the stage with a July 5 performance at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium with Rod Stewart, then the duo will move on to a July 18 performance at Bronx, N.Y.’s Yankee Stadium. Further shows through the end of the year include two sets with Sting and four with Nicks. For tickets and more information of Joel’s full tour schedule, visit billyjoel.com/tour.
