Anders Osborne, the New Orleans mainstay known for his descriptive lyrics, skillful guitar work, and soulful delivery, has revealed the latest preview of his impending studio album, Picasso’s Villa, due April 26 via 5thWard/Missing PieceRecords. “Reckless Heart,” exclusively premiered by Relix, is an anthem for starting each day. Steeped in resilience and intertwined with a powerful punch of positivity, the song sets forth a strong message to enter each day with optimism.
“Reckless Heart” builds upon the greater album theme of renewal, a sensation and outlook Osborne embraces during this chapter of his career. “Sometimes it feels like a curse, but it’s more about my relationship with the Universe. Every time I’m just about to stop, I get that little sign or message that completely just expels the idea of quitting. There’s just no way. I keep getting reminded why I’m doing it,” the artist explained.
Speaking directly about today’s song premiere, Osborne told Relix, “I wanted to write a tune about kicking down my front door first thing in the morning as I entered the day. A feeling of excitement and confidence. Engaging and investing my heart in something I believe in, even when other people’s opinions and values can resonate louder than my own intuition. I stay optimistic. It works!”
Osborne provided background on reestablishing his journey through music and the antithesis of his renewed approach, “The biggest change in getting sober was the focus on meditation and prayer, just looking more inward. When I’m sleeping in 140 different beds a year, eating unhealthy foods, the meditation is what keeps me centered. If I’m en route somewhere, I’ll just put on a tape with a chant or a mantra—as opposed to being on social media. Holding myself in that sacred space for a while is what makes it possible for me to do all this”
“Reckless Heart” captures Osborne’s fresh outlook harnessed to self-work and aspirations for a deeper experience while maintaining his signature rock approach–only this time extending the use of deeper lyrics that build off his rough and free-form attitude to songwriting. Today’s premiere comes on the heels of the artist’s initial single release off Picasso’s Villa, “Bewildered.”
Osborne’s expansive career traces back a spectrum of inspiration, tied to luminaries like Vivaldi, Chopin, Black Sabbath, Robert Johnson, Joni Mitchell, John Coltrane, Bob Dylan, and Bob Marley, and the city he first discovered at 19, New Orleans. Since his 1989 debut release, the artist’s career has blossomed, having shared the stage with various hard-hitters like Toots and The Maytals, Dr. John, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Keb’ Mo’, Bonnie Raitt and Phil Lesh.
