Song Premiere: Particle “Wire”

Tomorrow, September 21, livetronica outfit Particle will release their first album in 14 yearsAccelerator, following up 2004’s Launchpad, and today we premiere the final preview of the effort with new single “Wire,” which kicks off the tracklist for Accelerator.

“We chose ‘Wire’ as the album opener because it really hits the ground running and grabs your attention right out of the gate,” keyboardist Steve Molitz tells Relix. “‘Wire’ sets the pace for the entire album by tapping into that classic Launchpad-era Particle intensity, while also offering a wide dynamic range and more modern production.”

The single packs a lot into less than four minutes, opening with an energetic, sequenced riff with explosive drums, leading into crunching guitars and a couple of low-key breakdowns and builds, ending with a synth-and-guitar-led outro.

“Our guitarist Mike Daum programmed all the ‘Wire’ synth sequences in Abelton, and it’s cool to hear how those electronic elements interact with the analog synth parts I played on the Moog Voyager,” Molitz says. “That interplay between analog and digital is a common theme on the album, and we really tried to blur the lines between those two extremes whenever possible. I remember a great rehearsal moment when we were working out the ‘Wire’ arrangement and we stumbled onto the idea for the call and response, and harmony sections at the end of the tune. Mike and I instinctively started playing off each other’s parts while we were jamming, and you could see the little light bulbs go off above our heads! It was a fun and organic moment of inspiration, and those improv parts we played ended up on the album.”
