Third Man Records Will Issue Two Nights of Sly and The Family Stone at the Fillmore

Sly and the Family StoneIn early October 1968, Sly and the Family Stone made their way to the Fillmore East in New York City. The group performed two shows per evening on October 4th and 5th. Third Man Records is going to devote a single LP to each of these four sets as part of its ongoing Vault series.

Turn Me Loose: Live at the Fillmore East 1968 will be pressed on 180-gram colored vinyl. The gatefold will present a live shot of the group taken at the hallowed venue by Amalie Rothschild. The slip mat will feature artwork from the Joshua Light Show, as projected at the Fillmore East in 1968. In addition, the package will include two 6” x 6”, luster-finish photo prints made from studio portraits shot by Bob Cato.

In addition to the band’s namesake, the group’s lineup during these dates included Larry Graham (bass), Greg Errico (percussion), Jerry Martini (saxophone), Cynthia Robinson (trumpet), Brother Freddie Stone (guitar, vocals) and Sister Rosie Stone (electric piano, vocals). The band focused on its albums Dance to the Music and Life for these performances, along with covers of Otis Redding’s “I Can’t Turn You Loose” and a take on the jazz standard “St. James Infirmary.”

In order to received the album, one needs to subscribe to the Vault, which is Third Man Records’ quarterly vinyl subscription club, by July 31.
