Life Is A Cabaret for Amanda Palmer

Late last month Amanda Palmer released Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele and now she’s charging ahead with her next project. From August 31 through October 29, the Dresden Dolls founder will look back to Germany in 1931 when she appears in the musical Cabaret. Palmer will portray the role of the Emcee, originated by Joel Grey back in 1996 (for which he received a Tony Award). The performance is being produced in conjunction with the American Repertory Theater but will not take place at the ART facility in Cambridge, MA but nearby at OBERON in Harvard Square. As Palmer explains, “It doesn’t make sense to me to do this show as a proscenium production – you want to be INSIDE of the Kit Kat Klub… not observing it. This production is going to be messy, risky, sexy and immersive. People won’t know what hit them the minute they walk in the door – we’re creating an entire world that covers every inch of the venue.” Cabaret will be directed by Palmer’s High School drama teacher Steven Bogart.
