Ever since returning to the road on June 4 for the latest series of dates, Bob Dylan has been revisiting older material that he has not performed in a few years, if at all.

On opening night in Troutdale, Oregon at McMenamins Edgefield it was the live debut of “Baby, Won’t You Be My Baby,” which was recorded with The Band for the Basement Tapes sessions and released in 2014 on The Bootleg Series, Vol. 11: The Basement Tapes RAW.

At his next show, he revisited “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” another Basement Tapes-era tune, which he had last played on November 21, 2012. Two gigs later at the Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene it was “I Shall Be Released,” which he performed for the first time since 2008. “I Shall Be Released” is another song with a Woodstock, NY connection as The Band recorded it on their debut album, Music From Big Pink.

This past Friday night at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, CA Dylan dipped back into his catalog once again. He and his band offered up “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven,” which he had previous played on 12/8/19. That song first appeared on his 1997 album Time Out of Mind, which was produced by Daniel Lanois.

Bob Dylan’s summer tour resumes on Wednesday at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
