Givers: In Light

7:00 AM EDT on October 13, 2011

Glassnote

Released on Glassnote – the same label that helped propel both Mumford & Sons and Phoenix to stardom – Givers’ debut album In Light, and the band’s euphoric live shows, could illicit the same type of breakout success. Similar in some ways to the Americanized Afro-pop that Vampire Weekend dabbles in smashed against the experimental indie pop of Animal Collective, the Lafayette, La.-based quintet drifts effortlessly from psychedelic guitars and tripped out keyboards to sunny feel-good grooves. Though loose and free in a way that should appeal to the most die-hard jam fans and steeped in emotion, the songs are focused and tied together with infectious rhythms, beautifully balanced male-female vocals and brilliant hooks. In Light grows richer with each listen and might just be the catchiest album of the summer.
