Today, April 29, marks Willie Nelson’s 92nd birthday.
In his many trips around the sun, the red-headed stranger has become a true national treasure and earned his status as one of country music’s most vital innovators and his place among the greatest songwriters of all time. Earlier in April, the tireless firebrand released Oh What a Beautiful World, his 77th solo studio record and 154th full-length album. This summer, he’ll return to the road for the life he loves with the 10th annual Outlaw Music Festival tour, plotting 33 engagements from coast to coast alongside Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and more in the beloved tradition’s longest outing yet.
Along the way, Nelson has also enjoyed a significant film career, pioneered developments in biodiesel science, secured a fifth-degree black belt in Gongkwon Yusul and stoked a reputation as one of the foremost proponents for the legalization of marijuana. Furthering this last point, the legendary artist just recently rolled out Willie’s Remedy+, a new THC tonic and the official drink sponsor for the 2025 Outlaw Music Festival Tour. Over the weekend, he debuted Willie Nelson Presents: King of the Roadies, his new documentary on the late Texas legend and original roadie Ben Dorcy. He shows no signs of slowing down.
