Last night in Chicago, Eddie 9V began his extended run of shows opening for The Black Keys. The musician marked the occasion by releasing the first song and video for “Blowin’ Up” from his forthcoming album Down Here. The record was produced by Dan Auerbach and will be issued by Easy Eye Sound.

The Atlanta-based artist initially gained renown for his dynamic live shows while still in his teens. He wrote and produced his first studio album in 2019. Then it followed it with three additional soulful, roots-based efforts.

Eddie 9V traveled to Nashville to work on Down Here with Auerbach. There he began collaborating on songs with Marcus King as well as Pat McLaughlin (Bonnie Raitt, John Prine) and Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves, Lee Ann Womack).

“I write all the time, but it was the first time I’ve ever done a writing session in Nashville,” he says. “You’re dealing with songwriters that are at the top of their game and that was incredible for me. I learned to focus solely on the writing.”

Auerbach adds, “We spent more time writing than we did recording, which meant we could focus on getting a good take. It was all about capturing that magic moment, that fire. Eddie just killed it, especially when he was playing those solos live. We were all feeding off his energy because not only is he a great singer, his guitar playing is also incredible.”

“Blowin’ Up” is now streaming. Eddie 9V says, “It’s my favorite song on the album. It’s got such a good groove.” The album is available for pre-save and pre-order.
