Watch Now: Taylor Hawkins Son Pays Tribute to Father with “My Hero” Cover

On July 4, the late Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane Hawkins, covered Foo Fighters’ 1997 track “My Hero” off The Colour and the Shape album at the Laguna Beach block party in Southern California. The young musician sat in on drums, honoring his father alongside the local band, The Alive.   

Clips of the performance were posted on social media and can be viewed below. Among the videos, one caption read: “When Taylor Hawkins’ son gets on the drums and dedicated the song ‘My Hero’ to his dad.” Additional comments included “not a dry eye in the house” and “The hawk would’ve been proud.”

The Alive have an extensive history with the Hawkins family and Foo Fighters. Most recently, the young band opened for Chevy Metal, Taylor Hawkins’ cover band, and for Foo Fighters at Lollapalooza Chile, a performance that occurred just one week before Hawkins’ tragic passing on March 25.
