Watch: Jon Batiste, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Win ‘Best Original Score’ at The Oscars

Live music staples Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Jon Batiste made good on their spellbinding music for Pixar’s Soul on Sunday night, winning the Oscar for ‘Best Original Score.’

Reznor and Ross are known by many for their work under the Nine Inch Nails banner, but the pair are also quite familiar with the Academy Awards – they scored an Oscar in the same category for The Social Network in 2011.

However, this award for Soul marked Batsite’s first “little gold man,” and the New Orleans musician took centerstage for the acceptance speech, recounting how music has led him to do amazing things.

“What’s deep is that God gave us 12 notes,” Batiste said at the podium. “It’s the same twelve 12 notes that Duke Ellington had, Bach had, Nina Simone (had)…This moment is a culmination of a series of miracles. It’s so incredibly powerful to stand here and the lineage that we come from, the lineage in this film…I’m just thankful to God for those 12 notes.”
