Watch: Jimmy Fallon Sings “Tennessee Jed” with The Stolen Faces at The Brooklyn Bowl Nashville
Last night, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon surprised guests at the Brooklyn Bowl Nashville by joining beloved local Grateful Dead cover band The Stolen Faces for a couple of songs during their second set.
Fallon was in rare form, having exchanged his suit for a comfortable-looking tie-dye sweater, jeans and sunglasses. However, his unabashed excitement only shined brighter as he and the band immediately broke into the Grateful Dead’s 1972 classic “Tennessee Jed.”
It wasn’t before long that Fallon and the band had the crowd of Nashvillians singing along to their unofficial state anthem, “Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain’t no place I’d rather be/ Baby won’t you carry me back to Tennessee.”
After hoots and hollers from the crowd and more than a few smiles and nods from the band, Fallon said, “This is my favorite verse ’cause it shows that the Grateful Dead were funny, and that’s exactly what the point of all this is,” before breaking into the final verse of the song.
He continued to stay on stage to joyfully belt Robert Hunter’s unifying lyrics on “They Love Each Other.”
