Watch: Greensky Bluegrass and Ryan Montbleau Cover Ryan Adams and David Rawlings’ “To Be Young (is to Be Sad, is to Be High)” in Vermont

On Wednesday evening, Greensky Bluegrass arrived at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vt., to participate in the Ben & Jerry’s Concerts on the Green series. The show marked their latest in a string of summer appearances, which will continue throughout the season. Last night’s gig included a guest slot, filled by singer-songwriter and regional resident Ryan Montbleau, who joined the group to cover “To Be Young (is to Be Sad, is to Be High).” The track’s arrival also marked a debut for the hosts.
Montbleau’s arrival came after weather delays that pushed the onset of the initial batch of songs – “Monument,” “Bonedigger” and “Better Off.” After turning in the aforementioned tracks, the group brought out their guest, who sang Ryan Adams’ co-write with David Rawlings, “To Be Young (is to Be Sad, is to Be High),” alongside the bluegrass ensemble. The song was initially featured on Adams’ solo studio debut, Heartbreaker. Montbleau had sung it on occasion before last night, including on Jam Cruise excursions of yesteryears, the program’s 10th iteration.
Following Greensky Bluegrass’ debut, the band thanked their guest and moved into a batch of songs that included “Reverend,” “Worried About The Weather,” “Past My Prime” and “Stress Dreams.” For their next selection, the group chose “Freeborn Man,” which fused into “The Four” and “Bottle Dry.” The final segment of the concert featured renditions of “Old Barns,” “Distracted,” and “Kerosene” before heavy rain and lightning cut the concert short.
