It looks like Grateful Shred are back in the saddle, as today they’re premiering a two separate live clips from their sold out July 16 gig at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, Calif.

This outing marked the band’s first live show since the onset of the pandemic, and the clips showcase Grateful Dead favorites “They Love Each Other” and “Iko Iko.”

The Libbey Bowl gig also saw the debut of the band’s new “seven-piece big band” lineup.

Recalls bassist Dan Horne, “We were looking forward to kicking off this past summer in Ojai for a long time. Ojai was the band’s first live performance of the pandemic and in nearly two years. It didn’t disappoint. A lot of beautiful people journeyed from all over Southern California to get High in Ojai. And the venue, Libbey Bowl, plays like a mini-Hollywood Bowl, Greek or Shoreline. It’s got a great built-in energy to it. Sam and Clay (Blasucci and Finch) are working on their own projects right now so we called up our superstar buddies Alex Koford, Omar Velasco and William Tyler to play with us. They stepped in and stepped up big time. We’ve been loving the exploration of new musical pathways within the Dead’s highways and byways, and with these new players. It feels fresh and new, like we’re just getting started.”
