The String Cheese Incident’s Just Keep Spinning Tour made its way to Sharkey’s in Liverpool, NY last night. This leg of the tour began at the Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham, AL last Thursday. SCI will appear at the Roxian Theatre in Pittsburgh, PA this evening before traveling to Electric Forest to wrap up this stretch of shows.

At Sharkey’s the band came onstage in full-on percussive mode with Jason Hann leading a jam then taking a solo before the full band kicked off the night. The two sets that ensued spanned the group’s career. SCI performed two of the songs that it debuted on the current tour: “Star” and “Lightning Sky.” In addition, the six-piece revisited material from the band’s early days such as “Pirates” which debuted on 7/23/96 (and appears on the group’s 1997 live album A String Cheese Incident), “Missin’ Me,” which has been in rotation since 10/12/96, “Shine” which the group first played on 8/9/98, the group’s cover of Peter Rowan’s “Midnight Moonlight” which goes back to 2/24/98, Joe Zawinul’s “Birdland” an SCI staple since 2/20/99 and Bill Monroe’s “Wheel Hoss” which premiered on 3/14/00.

The String Cheese Incident also delivered a Beatles cover that had been out of rotation for a few years. The band last played “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window” at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on 5/25/19. One of the most memorable versions of the song took place during the first hour of the new millennium in Portland, OR. On 12/31/99 at the Oregon Convention Center the band’s second set included a sequence that moved through the final 7 songs on Abbey Road (excluding “Her Majesty”): a fully segued sequence that moved from “Sun King” through “Mean Mr. Mustard,” “Polythene Pam,” “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window,” “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and “The End.”

Following tonight’s gig in Pittsburgh and then Electric Forest, SCI will return to the stage at Red Rocks on July 17 and 18.
