The Smile have canceled August 2024 tour dates after band member Jonny Greenwood was hospitalized with a severe infection. The Radiohead spinoff shared the update today, Friday, July 12, via social media: “A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill from an infection that needed emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care. Mercifully, he is now out of danger and will soon return home.”

Their statement continued, “We have been instructed by the medical team in charge of Jonny’s care to cancel all engagements until he has had time to make a full recovery. To that end, The Smile tour of Europe in August is cancelled. Refunds for headline shows will be available from your ticket provider. We all wish Jonny a speedy recovery.” Canceled dates range from August 13 in Latvia to August 28 in Valencia, Spain.

Prior to the shift in their impending live schedule, The Smile released their sophomore album, Wall of Eyes, in January of this year–the follow-up to 2022’s debut, A Light for Attracting Attention. Apart from full ensemble appearances, member Thom Yorke will embark on solo dates this fall, slated for New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Read more
