Today, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based trio The Lone Bellow announced their latest project, Love Songs For Losers, which will release on Nov. 4 via Dualtone Music Group. The LP will mark the eclectic Americana ensemble’s fifth full-length project, expanding on their already stately body of work. In celebration of the LP announcement, The Lone Bellow also shared a single off the project entitled “Honey.”

The new single is a delicate synth-fueled reflection on the enduring nature of love which sonically expands on the often elusive concept through wisdom and honesty. “‘Honey’ came from thinking about how my wife doesn’t like being called ‘honey’ or ‘baby’—she thinks it’s lazy, it always rubs her the wrong way,” shated lead vocalist Zach Williams in a statement. “It turned into a song about sometimes wanting to go back to when we were first in love, when everything was crazy and exciting and we were right on the verge of ruining each other’s lives at any second.”

Earlier this year, the group teased the project with their lead single, “Gold,” which takes a stern look at the impact of the opioid crisis; between the two songs, it’s clear that  Love Songs For Losers has a galvanizing and unflinching intent.

In a shift from past work with producers, including Aaron Dessner of The National and eight-time Grammy-winner Dave Cobb, the trio fine-tuned the LP on their own this time around. The 11-track project was recorded at the former of the legendary American singer Roy Orbison over eight weeks, and the result is a mediation on the joy, pain and wonder of the human condition in all of its heartbreaking, meaningless and transcendent glory.

“One of the reasons we went with Love Songs for Losers as the album title is that I’ve always seen myself as a loser in love—I’ve never been able to get it completely right,” added Williams, whose bandmates include Brian Elmquist and Kanene Donehey Pipkin. “The songs are looking at bad relationships and wonderful relationships and all the in-between, sometimes with a good deal of levity. It’s us just trying to encapsulate the whole gamut of experience that we all go through as human beings.”

The project also includes additions from longtime bassist Jason Pipkin and drummer Julian Dorio and was co-produced by Elmquist and Jacob Sooter. With the release of Love Songs For Losers, the trio will continue tour dates supporting Maren Morris before they hit the road this fall for an extensive nationwide tour that includes stops at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, DC’s 9:30 Club, and New York City’s Webster Hall and more.
