Robert Plant Highlights Stephen Colbert’s Affinity for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ During ‘The Late Show’ Appearance, Submits Final Night of Spring Fever Tour [A Photo Gallery]

On Wednesday evening, Robert Plant served as the musical guest during the midweek presentation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In recognition of the 33-year-running program nearing its end, Plant shared a classic song from the Led Zeppelin archive, “Ramble On.” The choice number functioned as a fitting tribute to Colbert, who is a known J.R.R. Tolkien superfan. Notably, the Zeppelin track is renowned for its direct references to The Lord of the Rings, making it an ideal fit for the occasion.

During a prior appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host and Plant shared their regard for the book and subsequent movie trilogy. Notably, Colbert has publicly signed on to co-write a new The Lord of the Rings movie, dubbed The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. The thoughtful gesture was posted on the host’s official YouTube channel, along with a secondary song from Plant’s new LP, Saving Grace, “Higher Rock.” Watch performance videos of both tracks below.

Prior to Plant’s arrival at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City, he submitted the final stop of his Spring Fever 2026 tour. The concert took place at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York and centered around the release of his latest album, Saving Grace. Like the LP, the evening setlist included new songs with Suzi Dian, along with traditionals and choice covers. Also included were nods to the bandleader’s Zeppelin timeline.
