Phish Offer More Debuts and Bust Outs in Mexico

Phish’s annual destination event at Cancun, Mexico’s Moon Palace continued yesterday. Much like the run’s first and second concerts, night three of the four-show event featured both a song debut and a bust out. It’s a notable shift from 2025, when Phish didn’t introduce any new material and only debuted two covers as part of their New Year’s Eve gag, though they revived several cuts during the course of year.

After Thursday’s show featured a four-song, jam-forward second set exclusively focused on material introduced since 2019, Friday’s first set packed in a number of classic tunes and newer standards. Phish kicked off the segment with the up-tempo “Blaze On,” which featured a location-specific lyrical change to “dancing on the beach.” From there, the Vermont Quartet moved on to “Bouncing Around the Room,” “Evolve,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” “Tube” and “Water in the Sky.” The show’s first segue took place next, as Phish moved from the Billy Breathes single “Free” into an over 14-minute take on “Bathtub Gin,” a favorite at the beachside event. Page McConnell’s Vida Blue cut “Most Events Aren’t Planned” closed the set.

The musicians kicked off their second set with an extended improvisational sequence that segued from a 27-plus minute “Carini” into an over 13-minute “Light,” The Story of the Ghost semi-rarity “Frankie Says” and an over 13-minute “Everything’s Right.” Of note, “Frankie Says” had not been played since July 30, 2023. An almost 20-minute spin on a new number, “Life Saving Gun,” and an energetic “First Tube” closed the main portion of the show.

For their encore, Phish took their first stab at a new Trey Anastasio/Tom Marshall song “Simeon,” a slower, more compact number that the Trey Anastasio Band tried out this past fall. (According to Phish.net, Anastasio and Marshall composed the tune during a summer 2025 writing session.) “A Life Beyond The Dream” brought the evening to a close.

Phish will conclude their annual trip to Mexico tonight.
