Neil Young Announces Two-Night Run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester
Neil Young has announced a pair of new concert dates. The Canadian artist shared that on September 23 and 24, he will perform in Port Chester, N.Y., with support from The Chrome Hearts, featuring Promise of the Real membership crossover; multi-instrumentalist Micah Nelson, drummer Anthony LoGerfo and bassist Corey McCormick. The impending occasion will close a nearly six-year gap since the last time Young performed at the historic Empire State venue, 2018.
The Capitol Theatre dates represent the continuation of a live comeback from the rock and roller, who ignited his return on Wednesday, Sept. 4, with the formal arrival of the Harvest Moon Benefit Concert. The charitable occasion serves as a fundraiser for Painted Turtle and The Bridge School; the latter has long been a source of inspiration for Young, who began formalizing his relationship with the organization that serves children with severe speech and physical impairments in the mid-80s.
The latest move to get concert dates back on the calendar comes after the artist and his Crazy Horse band’s summer tour cancellation, which occurred in late June as a result of illness stemming from a concert performed on May 22 at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Mich. The catalyst for revocation resulted in Young’s later comments, which came via a Zoom Q&A with subscribers of the Neil Young Archive.
Young told fans, “A couple of us really hit a wall.” Explaining, “I just woke up one morning on the bus and I said, ‘I can’t do this, I gotta stop.’ I felt sick when I thought of going onstage. My body was telling me, ‘You gotta stop.’ And so I listened to my body.” With a restful summer achieved and the promise of live shows to come, the 78-year-old appears to be on an upward trajectory, both physically and mentally prepared for 2024’s second wind.
Tickets for Young and The Chrome Hearts’ concert at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., go on sale Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m.
