John Scofield Taps Adam Deitch, Oteil Burbridge and Larry Goldings for Electrospective Autumn Run
With a career spanning over 50 years, including an interlude supporting Miles Davis, the renowned guitarist John Scofield is looking to excavate the layers of his career in front of a live audience this fall. Supporting Scofield is a top-tier ensemble of seasoned musicians, including drummer Adam Deitch (Lettuce), bassist Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Co., Allman Brothers), and keyboardist Larry Goldings (Scary Goldings, James Taylor).
The late autumn run, dubbed “Electrospective,” will find Scofield revisiting and reinterpreting songs from different stages of his career. On the ticketing page for his forthcoming live show, material from Blue Matter, Uberjam, and A Go Go will be among the choice pulls. The site also said, “Not intending to replicate the earlier fan favorites, he plans instead to revisit them with the seasoned perspective of several decades.”
While a forecast of the complete tour is not yet available, Deitch shared in a Facebook post that the group will perform at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati. Along with his own comments: “Well, I guess now’s the time to announce I will be doing a few weeks of shows with my favorite mentor and guitar genius John Scofield in the fall.”
He says, “We will be exploring his electric funky tunes as an ‘Electrospective’ with organist Larry Goldings ( listen to Life on Planet groove by Maceo Parker, that’s him on keys AND left hand bass!) On bass guitar we have another mentor, friend and limitless bassist Oteil Burbridge who I am very excited to play with.”
Notably, the forthcoming shows continue Scofield and Deitch’s history. The pair previously teamed up with Eric Krasno in the early aughts as the Uberjam band. The group cut three albums and took to the road, where they shared their amalgamated sound with the masses. They continued their musical relationship in recent years with Scofield appearing on Deitch’s self-titled quartet albums.
Previously, Scofield teamed up with Burbridge along with the Allman Brothers Band during a Beacon Theatre appearance in 2011. The bandleader’s history with Goldings goes back even further, to the mid-90s as a member of his four-piece band. Goldings also appeared on Scofield’s studio set, A Moment’s Peace, after crossing paths and exchanging notes with Jack DeJohnette.
Deitch concluded his post by adding, “Full list of dates to be announced soon.”
Pre-sale for the ensemble’s Cincinnati appearance is underway.
