Last night, April 3, attendees at Las Vegas’ CinemaCon received a first look at Deliver Me From Nowhere, the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. With the star and Jeremy Strong–who portrays Springsteen’s longtime manager Jon Landau–present for commentary, viewers saw an advance trailer for the film that reveals some of the subjects and themes to be expected, as well as White’s performance of “Born to Run.”

The preview shows White as Springsteen test-driving a new Chevy, interspersed with flashbacks to his upbringing. Bruce’s ghosts flash in black and white, including a troubled adolescence with his father (played by Stephen Graham) and struggles to find himself while singing, songwriting and walking the Shore. Back in the car, Strong as Landau leans over the window and tells Bruce “I do know who you are.” The boss replies, “That makes one of us,” before a cut to him performing the legendary 1975 anthem to a crowd.

In a Q&A, White said the film was “an incredible challenge and a dream come true,” and I feel really lucky we all had Bruce’s blessing on this film. It’s the story of a very particular moment in Bruce’s life when he was trying to reconcile the pressure of success and the ghosts of his past.”

“Jon was, of course, deeply invested in Bruce as an artist,” Strong reflected, “but he was also deeply invested in his friend’s happiness and well-being and his struggles with mental health. I see Jon as the Lewis to Bruce’s Clark.”

Deliver Me From Nowhere centers on the personal turmoil and artistic revelation of Springsteen’s Nebraska era, as communicated in Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name. Beyond White and Clark, Jersey Boys breakout Johnny Cannizzaro will fill the role of Steven Van Zandt, and Odessa Young, Harrison Sloan Gilbertson and Paul Walter Hauser will round out the starring cast.

The film is written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass), who has centered production in Springsteen’s stomping grounds of the Garden State, with additional photography in New York and Los Angeles. “Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska has profoundly shaped my artistic vision,” Cooper offered in a statement to Variety. “The album’s raw, unvarnished portrayal of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me. Our film aims to capture that same spirit, bringing Warren Zanes’ compelling narrative of Bruce’s life to the screen with authenticity and hope, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience. It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Bruce and Jon [Landau] as I tell their story, and their creative energy fuels every part of this journey.”

Deliver Me From Nowhere is set to release on a yet-to-be-disclosed date in 2025. Stay tuned for more information, and watch White and Strong’s introductions below.

Yesterday, Springsteen himself unveiled the long-awaited archival collection Tracks II: The Lost Albums, which includes, LA Garage Sessions ’83, the widely bootlegged formative missing link between Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A.
