This Saturday night in Bridgeport featured TTB with opener Sheryl Crow. Sheryl had the crowd on their feet from the get-go, singing along to her 11-song set of mostly hits like “Can’t Cry Anymore,” “Strong Enough” and “Every Day Is a Winding Road.” She did play one new song, “Freedom Bus,” off her forthcoming album Pick You Up (out October 9th) and another highlight was “Cross Creek Road” off 2019’s Threads album—especially the dual guitar work of her longtime guitarists Peter Stroud and Audley Freed.
Tedeschi Trucks Band started off the set with “The Letter” and closed with “Space Captain”—both fan favorites the group performed during their 2015 LOCKN’ performance recreating Mad Dogs and Englishmen. In the middle of the set, the audience was treated to “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got to be so Sad” two songs the band played during their 2019 LOCKN’ performance recreating Derek & The Dominos’ Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Trucks’ solo on “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad” was an absolute highlight and the crowd all leapt to their feet.
Susan Tedeschi was in fine form and her power vocals and guitar riffs were on point all night. Additionally, while all of the 10 other musicians in the band were stellar as always, another standout was Mike Mattison, whose vocal performances on “I Feel So Bad” (Chuck Willis) and “Heartbreaker” (The Rolling Stones) affirmed that he's a powerhouse in his own right.
This was the fourth year in a row that TTB brought their summer tour to the Amphitheatre in Bridgeport for a two-night run and the vibe at the venue suited the band particularly well.
