On Tuesday and Wednesday, Bruce Springsteen slowly rolled out information on the long-awaited arrival of an expansive archival collection. After first teasing a new offering on April 1 with a mock-up form from his Thrill Hill Recording home studio marked with the phrase “What Was Lost Has Now Been Found” and embedding more hints in a teaser video yesterday, Springsteen has officially unveiled the full tracklist and release date for Tracks II: The Lost Albums.

Set for release on June 27 via Sony Music, Tracks II: The Lost Albums compiles seven complete records recorded by Bruce between 1983 and 2018. These unheard entries offer unprecedented insight into formerly enigmatic periods of the iconic musician’s output and revealing glimpses of his artistic process. The collection spans a total of 83 diverse songs, 74 of which have never been published in any form. “The ability to record at home whenever I wanted allowed me to go into a wide variety of different musical directions,” the Boss reflected.

“’The Lost Albums’ were full records, some of them even to the point of being mixed and not released,” Springsteen said. “I’ve played this music to myself and often close friends for years now. I’m glad you’ll get a chance to finally hear them. I hope you enjoy them.”

The wealth of music begins with LA Garage Sessions ’83, the long coveted missing link between Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A. that has been among the most widely bootlegged projects from Springsteen’s discography in recent years. Further exciting entries include the chilling synthesizer experimentation of Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, boldly divergent country and heartland sounds with pedal steel on Somewhere North of Nashville, a smoky traditional string-backed noir in Twilight Hours, the Mexican culture-inspired Inyo and Faithless, the soundtrack to a film that was never made.

The collection is preceded today by the anthemic lead single “Rain In The River” from Perfect World, which he describes as “the one thing on this that wasn’t initially conceived as an album,” instead as “something I put together.”

Springsteen first opened up his archives in 1998 with Tracks, a celebrated four-disc collection of 66 unheard recordings from throughout his career. While he’s followed up on that impulse since with expanded reissues of Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River and more, he’s also kept stirring the pot for a follow-up to the revealing compilation–which he seems to have been just as eager to share as the fans have been to hear it.
