Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has taken to the road with his new group The Chophouse Band. This is the initial U.S. tour for the quintet who will be out through July 25. Most of the band’s shows are opening for Blackberry Smoke, which is in the midst of a 25th anniversary tour.

Even since the two groups shared their first date on July 9 Newsted has been appearing with Blackberry Smoke for the first song of their encore. On Thursday at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC Newsted came out for Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak.” The next night at the Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, NC, it was Black Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave.” Then on Saturday at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC, Newsted appeared on “Jailbreak” once again.

Blackberry Smoke’s next date with Jason Newsted & The Chophouse Band is on Wednesday at Artpark Amphitheater in Lewiston, NY.
