Lindsay Lou Collaborates with Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle, Aoife O’Donovan and Sarah Jarosz on ‘Bluegrass Women’
On August 14, Lindsay Lou will release a new album that will celebrate the long history of women in bluegrass. She has selected 10 songs written by female songwriters and invited a number of guest musicians to join her on this project. The first single from Bluegrass Women “All I Ever Loved Was You” was written by Dorothy Skaggs and features Lindsay Lou along with Tatiana Hargreaves, Laurie Lewis, Hasse Ciaccio, Maddie Witler and Alison Brown.
The artist says of the album, “Some of these songs I sang for many years before realizing they were penned by a wife/mother/female artist. As a woman, it’s easy to feel like an outsider, or like you don’t belong, in a genre where there is a noticeable lack of representation of women among the forebears. To know that women’s voices made it into the traditional songs feels like a quiet win, and I want to draw more attention to it.”
The roster of players also includes Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle, Aoife O’Donovan and Sarah Jarosz. Linday Lou notes, “Just like having pickers like Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull out there showing little girls that there is a place for them now in bluegrass, I want to show where there always has been.”
An album trailer has been released and appears below. Bluegrass Women is available for pre-order. Lindsay Lou’s upcoming dates, including her July 31 Grand Ole Opry debut are underneath the trailer.
