Guster hit the road in mid-August right after their annual On the Ocean festival and kept that event’s collaborative spirit intact as they moved through the Northeast. On Tuesday, August 11, the group performed at South Deerfield, MA’s Tree House Brewing Company, with Rubblebucket’s Alex Toth opening the night with his eponymous Tōth project. The members of Guster also welcomed Toth back to the stage during their set to play trumpet on one of their signature tunes, the 1996 Goldfly track “Airport Song.”

A few days later, on Friday, August 14, Tōth opened for Guster once again at Albany, NY’s ornate The Egg and the trumpet player joined the group during their show a second time. Elevating things a bit, this time Toth emerged in the crowd for a gag, performing alongside the band, who were still on the stage, during “Lost at Sea,” an outtake from 2010’s Easy Wonderful that was only debuted live in 2024.

Then, while appearing at Fairport, NY’s Hoochenanny on Saturday, August 15, Guster welcomed drummer Patrick Hallahan, whose band My Morning Jacket were also on the bill, out for a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic “Dreams.” As previously reported, later in the day MMJ also welcomed Karina Rykman, who has toured with Guster, out during their set.

Guster will perform at Mill Valley, CA’s Sound Summit on September 12 while My Morning Jacket will take the stage at Ocean City, MD’s Oceans Calling Festival on September 27. Tōth, who released And The Voice Said earlier this year, will appear at Cambridge, MA’s The Middle East on September 30. He also recently stopped by Relix for a video session.
